FOOD/CANDIES/DRINKS: Glycyrrhiza has been used as a flavoring for hundreds of years. The sweet taste of Glycyrrhiza yellow root prompted its use in the manufacture of candies. In the United Kingdom liquorice (syn. glycyrrhiza) is used as an emulsifier to create foam in drinks and alcoholic beverages. Glycyrrhiza root can be chewed or made into tea.

PHARMACEUTICAL: Since the 14th century, Glycyrrhiza has been used to soothe coughs, colds and bronchitis. It can be made into a glycyrrhiza extract, concentrate or infusion. Consumption of glycyrrhiza is believed to aid in healing stomach ulcers and liver diseases. Tea made from glycyrrhiza and other anti-spasmodic herbs is often taken for menstrual cramps. It is still used for these reasons today and it is one of the ingredients found in many European cough preparations. It is also highly regarded as a soothing ingredient for sore throat and laryngitis.

CIGARETTES: Recently, We did get a message that chewing liquorice root has been most helpful in giving up smoking as it gives the hands something to do and has the shape/texture of a cigarette. Also it tastes like tobacco (because cigarettes are flavored with glycyrrhiza).
